Student Visas

Short-term Student Visitor

Short-term Student Visitor Visa for short study courses valid for 6 months. It is limited into short term study programs or research projects which are part of main foreign degree-awarding studies. In order to be eligible to apply for Short-term Student Visitor Visa, applicants must

  • Be genuinely seeking entry to study as a short-term student.
  • Be a non-EEA and non-Swiss national.
  • Be aged 16 or over.
  • Have been accepted by one of the recognised education providers.

You can apply for Short-term Student Visitor Visa up to 3 months prior to your date of first entry to the UK. Most applications conclude within 3 weeks.

 

Extended Student Visitor

Extended Student Visitor Visa for short study courses valid for learning the English language. It is valid up to 11 months. In order to be eligible to apply for Extended Student Visitor Visa, applicants must

  • Be studying an English language course
  • Be genuinely seeking entry to study as a short-term student.
  • Be a non-EEA and non-Swiss national.
  • Be aged 16 or over.
  • Have been accepted by one of the recognised education providers.

You can apply for Extended Student Visitor Visa up to 3 months prior to your date of first entry to the UK. Most applications conclude within 3 weeks.

 

Tier 4 (General)

Tier 4 (General) Visa is the standard UK student visa that is required for courses lasting for longer than 6 months.

  • Be aged 16 or over.
  • Demonstrate English Language knowledge
  • Be a non-EEA and non-Swiss national.
  • Have been offered a place in institution listed as a licensed sponsor of Tier 4 applicants.
  • Be able to support yourself financially for the duration of the course.

You can apply for the visa from inside or outside the UK. Tier 4 (General) Visa length depends on duration of your course and you can apply to extend it if you wish to stay in the UK to work or pursue further studies.

You may be able to bring in family members (dependents). The earliest you can apply for Tier 4 (General) Visa is 3 months prior to you start your studies. You should usually get a decision on your visa within 3 weeks.

 

Tier 4 (Child)

Tier 4 (Child) Visa is a UK student visa for children aged 4-17 who want to study at an independent school in the UK. The application needs to be made from outside the UK.

  • Be a non-EEA and non-Swiss national.
  • Have been accepted by a place on a course.
  • Have enough adequate funds to cover your course tuition fees and living costs.
  • Obtain a consent of parent or guardian.

If you are under 16 when you apply for Tier 4 (Child) Visa, it is valid up to 6 years and it can be extended. And, if you are 16 and 17, it is valid up to 3 years based on the course length. The earliest you can apply for a visa is 3 months prior to you start your studies. You should usually get a decision on your visa within 3 weeks.

 

Tier 4 Dependents

Some Tier 4 (General) students may be able to bring in family members as their dependents. Your partner including husband, wife, civil partner, unmarried partner or same-sex partner along with your child can be your Tier 4 Dependent. If you are:

  • A postgraduate level full-time student of 9 months or longer at a 'higher education provider' (one of the institutions licensed to sponsor migrant students under Tier 4).
  • A new government-sponsored student on a course that lasts longer than 6 months .
  • A Doctorate Extension Scheme student.

You must already have your Tier 4 (General) immigration permission, or you must be applying at the same time as your dependent to obtain Tier 4 Dependent.

 

Parent of Tier 4 Child

The Parent of a Tier 4 Child Student Visa is for the parent of a child attending an independent fee-paying school under Tier 4 of the points-based system. You should be a non-EEA and non-Swiss national. It is valid for up to 12 months and subject to extension for another 12 months until your child reaches 12 years of age.

You can apply for a Parent of a Tier 4 Child Student Visa up to 3 months before your date of travel to the UK. You should get a decision on your visa within 3 weeks.
